Cheyenne Mountain Dancers - Split Ring Hash
Second in a series of three silent films made to accompany Shaw's 1947 recordings with the "Duel in the Sun" Orchestra. Working from an incomplete copy of the footage, we have attempted to create an approximate synchronization of video to audio. As far as we know, these are the only moving images of the Cheyenne Mountain Dancers doing complete squares.
More information about the recordings, the figures in this dance, and their location in Shaw's Cowboy Dances book.

SPLIT RING HASH
Lloyd Shaw, 1947
All jump up and never come down —
Swing your honey around and around,
(Till the) hollow of your foot
Makes a hole in the ground.
Promenade, boys, promenade.
The first couple balance, first couple swing.
Go down the center and split the ring.
Lady go right and the gent go left
This way, big boy, that way, sweet!
Swing when you meet at the head and the feet
Side four the same.
Now left allemande that corner girl
An' give your own a pretty little whirl.
It's down the center as you did before,
Down the center and cut away four.
Swing when you meet at the head and the feet,
Side four the same.
Now left allemande that corner girl,
Give your own a pretty little whirl
Down the center as you always do,
Down the center and cut away two.
Swing when you meet at the head and the feet
Side four the same.
Now, boys, swing that opposite across the hall,
And now the lady on your right;
And now your opposite across the hall;
And now your own and promenade all.
It's promenade. boys, promenade!
Promenade ·em two by two, —
Walk 'em home like you always do!
The second couple balance — swing!
Go down the center and split the ring,
The lady go right and the gent go left,
Swing 'em on the corner like swingin' on the gate.
It's allemande left, just one, —
Promenade that girl you swung.
The same old gent and a brand new girl,
Down the center and away you whirl, —
The lady go right and the gent go wrong.
Now it's corners bow, and partners whirl,
And we'll all run away with the corner girl.
The same old mule, the same old road,
Down the center with a brand new load.
The lady go gee and the gent go haw!
Now it's do-si partners one and all,
It's do-si corners, don't you fall
lt's swing your own with a pretty little whirl
We'll all run away with that corner girl
Now the same old gent and a brand new dame,
Down the center and we'll do the same, —
The lady go right and the gent go wrong!
Swing on the corner like swingin' on the gate.
Now it's allemande with your left hand.
Right to your partner & a right and left grand.
Right foot up and a left foot down.
Make that big foot jar the ground.
Promenade your honey round.
Now the third lady!
we'll promenade that outside ring
Half way round, you pretty little thing,
Three in line you stand.
It's forward three and a three fall back.
Now it's forward three and three stand pat.
Gent do-si around those three.
Swing the L hand lady with the R hand round.
Now the R hand lady with the L hand round,
The opposite lady with both hands round.
Now all swing your own with your arms around.
Go back home and swing!
Now we'll swing your opposite across the hall
You ain't swung her since way last fall,
And now your own, if she ain't too small,
We'll promenade. boys, promenade.
Now the fourth couple balance — swing.
Promenade the outside ring half around.
Now it's four in line you stand!
It's forward four and-a four fall back!
Now it's forward four and four stand pat!
Right and left along that four,
Now it's right and left back as you were before.
Now the two ladies chain through center of the line.
Now we'll chain right back, you're doin' fine!
Now the center four'll circle four,
And a docey-doe with the gent you know, -
The lady go si and the gent go doe, -
Doe and a doe, little more dough,
Chicken in the bread tray pickin' up the dough,
One more change and home we,ll go.
And swing1 swing, it's everybody swing!
Now allemande left with your left hand,
Right to your partner and a R and L grand.
Meet your Sally, and-a meet your Sue,
Meet that girlie with the run-down shoe.
Promenade, boys, promenade!
You know where! I don't care!
Take 'em out and give 'em air!
